Visit at CCDB Climate Center
The Climate Center, established by Christian Commission for Development in Bangladesh CCDB, stands as a remarkable green initiative. This exceptional landscape park not only offers a picturesque setting but also serves as a knowledge hub and capacity-building platform. It provides an opportunity to delve into innovative solutions for the climate change challenges faced by Bangladesh. The Climate Center creates an immersive experience where visitors can explore and engage with strategies to tackle climate change in a captivating environment.
On 15th June 2023, a portion of the MPE 3rd year student got the opportunity to visit the CCDB Climate Center located at Sreepur, Gazipur. The students and the accompanying faculty members had to go through a security check at the entrance. Then they went to the conference room. There, they were shown a presentation on how the climate center works, its goals, and plans. After the presentation, refreshments were served. Followed by that the students headed over to the field visit.
The Climate Center has distinctive places that mimic the 5 major ecosystems of Bangladesh- the coastal zone, the char zone, the draught zone, the hair zone, and the hilly zone. In each zone, the environmental sufferings of the people in that area are mimicked. These zones also have the solutions to solve those climate issues without harming the environment. For example- there is a solar-powered saline water filtration system in the coastal zone.
There are also many Eco-friendly and sustainable systems and models throughout the facility. To name a few, there were auto-rotating solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems, solar water heaters, VRF technology in air conditioners, wave electricity models, water generation from humidity, pavement energy generation, etc. The center also has a resourceful library, a kid's zone, and a research center.
The visit to CCDB proved to be a profound source of inspiration for the students, igniting their passion to innovate environmentally friendly solutions for global challenges. The organization's strong collaborations with renowned universities and research centers across the country showcased its commitment to knowledge exchange and progress. Encouragingly, CCDB expressed its willingness to collaborate with the bright minds of IUT, fostering a promising avenue for future partnerships in tackling pressing environmental issues. The visit not only broadened the students' horizons but also opened doors to potential collaborations for a sustainable future.
