Virtual Seminar on ‘Biomass and Bioproducts in Indonesia- Sharing best practices’

On November 6, 2024, a virtual seminar titled “Biomass and Bioproducts in Indonesia: Sharing Best Practices” was held to promote collaboration in academic and research fields between IUT and leading Indonesian institutions like the University of Indonesia (UI), National Research and Innovation Agency-the Republic of Indonesia (BRIN) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Republic of Indonesia. The event featured notable speakers, including Prof. Misri Gozan, Director of the Research Centre for Biomass Valorization at UI; Dr. Akbar Hanif Dawam and Dr. Saptadi Darmawan, key figures from BRIN’s Research Centre for Biomass and
Bioproducts; and Mr. Moehammad Amar Ma’ruf, a career diplomat from Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The seminar, which targeted IUT teaching staff and students in Bangladesh involved in the renewable energy sector, provided a platform for knowledge exchange on Indonesia's best practices in biomass and bioproducts. The virtual seminar was attended by several faculty members of IUT, as well as around 75 undergraduate engineering students of different member countries of the OIC studying at IUT, namely: Bangladesh, Comoros, Chad, Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Sudan. The seminar aimed to strengthen solidarity among OIC members and contact among higher education and research institution to enhance the quality of human resources in OIC developing countries in applied technology for Biomass and Bioproducts. This activity also supports sustainable development goals in collaborative efforts to eradicate poverty, enhance the management of biodiversity and guide IUT to facilitate IUT participants. The event highlighted IUT’s role as a subsidiary body of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and underscored the commitment of both nations to shared learning and sustainable energy advancements. The seminar was moderated by Prof. Dr. Md. Rezwanul Karim (IUT), Mr. Moehammad Amar Ma’ruf (Indonesia) and Mr. Imrul Kayes (MPE Department, IUT).
